    Alan has been our Musical Director since 1986.

    Having graduated with an MA in Mathematics and Music from the University of Cambridge, Alan went on to become a music teacher and eventually Head of Music at King Edward VII School in Sheffield.

    Since 1987 Alan has been a freelance musician, teacher and choirmaster. He has taught piano at the University of Sheffield and at Sheffield Music School. As an accompanist he has performed with the City of Sheffield Girl’s Choir and the National Youth Choir.

    Alan has been choirmaster of several choirs in the North Midlands and North of England and is currently Musical Director of Bakewell Choral Society as well as the Sheffield Oratorio Chorus.

    Vivien Pike - Hon. M. Mus. GRSM ARMCM LGSM FRSA

    Vivien is a well known teacher of singing and vocal technique. Many of her students have gone on to become professional singers.

    Vivien studied music at the Royal Manchester/Royal Northern College of Music graduating with diplomas in teaching and performance as well as a Silver Medal.

    She has subsequently worked with both solo singers and choirs including the City of Sheffield Girls’ Choir which she led to win the Sainsbury’s ‘Choir of the Year’ competition in 1984. Vivien’s work has taken her across the world and she is in demand as an adjudicator of vocal performance.

    Vivien is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

    Lydia Fielder Lord

    Lydia is currently Co-Chair of the Chorus having been elected in 2023.

    Along with Phil Hirst, Lydia chairs the Chorus committee which overseas the running and management of the choir and is made up of a team elected by the Chorus membership.
